In 1997 the Disney-MGM Guide Book theme was "BACKSTAGE PASS to '101 Dalmatians".
SoundStage 1 and the Disney-MGM Studios water tower was repainted to reflect the "101 Dalmatians" theme.
The Backstage Tour was changed from "Backstage Studio Tour" to "Disney-MGM Studios Backlot Tour".

Fun Facts: Of Pongo and Perdita’s 15 puppies, you only ever hear the names of six.

Photo Flashback ~ Herbie, The Love Bug

Welcome to Disney Photo Flashback where each Friday we share and link up with Disney friends to share our Disney photos from past trips. This blog hop will start on Friday each week and stay open throughout the weekend giving all of us plenty of time to leisurely look back at our favorite Disney memories.

Today we're taking a look back at Herbie, the most famous Love Bug of the 60's. We always

looked forward to seeing Herbie perform his stunts in the Lights, Motors Action! Stunt Show.

Herbie had been featured in the show since it's debut in 2005. It's too bad he was replaced last June by Lightening McQueen as "the star car". As much as I love Lightening McQueen, it's just not the same.

If you haven't seen the Lights, Action, Motors! stunt show yet, you really should. There's usually a bit of a wait (during SWW they were testing out the new FP) but once you are in the ampitheater, there is always plenty of seating. Keep in mind there are poles in various places that might get in the way of your picture taking pleasure. This show is a must do for us, especially during the summer.

Now we have a video of Herbie's segment of the show that was replaced with a "Cars 2" segment, featuring Lightning McQueen.

A look back at last week...

Top 2 Disney Memories

This week's topic is our Top 2 Favorite Disney Memories. Narrowing my favorites down to just two was really tough. All I have are wonderful memories since our first trip as a family in 1990. My favorites could fill a book but here are two.
The first is from and E-ticket night in the Magic Kingdom. It was during the soft opening of Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin. We rode it over and over and each time our scores got better and better. What a great night!

On E-Ticket nights the characters would wander the parks throughout the night, greeting guests and signing autographs. There were no lines and you usually had them all to yourself for awhile until they wandered off in to the darkness. They fooled around quite a bit with guests always staying in character but really acting out, which was a lot of fun for us. You can read more about it HERE.

My second is from a very special birthday I spent in Disney World. That night we had dinner at the Rose & Crown which was absolutely fabulous ending with the servers singing "Happy Birthday" along with my family. After dinner we watched Illuminations and I got to photograph it from the best location in the World Showcase. You can read more about it HERE.

Photo Flashback ~ Mother's Day Surprise

It's time for Photo Flashback Friday here at Focused on the Magic!
Time to once again dust off our Walt Disney World photo albums and take another look at some of our favorite photos from vacations past.
This weekend we'll be celebrating Mother's Day and today I'd like to share a post about one very magical Disney Mother's Day Surprise.

Top 3 Favorite Disney Resorts

This week's topic is our Top 3 Favorite Walt Disney World Resorts
Narrowing my list down to just 3 resorts was a challenge because I have wonderful memories from every resort I've ever stayed in. To help me along in my decision I've narrowed it down to 3 resorts I would enjoy staying in for Mother's Day Weekend.

► The Boardwalk & The Yacht & Beach Club - I can't decide, I loved them all! We are DVC members at the Boardwalk Villas and I've stayed in the Y&B a few times. I just love all the activites these resorts offer and the restaurants are wonderful too. Just like the GF, they are so full of things to do you could stay at the resort and skip the parks. I can't but I'm sure there are people who do;)

It just so happens that yesterday was The Disney Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop and our theme for the week was Resorts & Relaxation. I chose
►The Wilderness Lodge - This is my sons and husbands favorite too. It's rustic but grand at the same time. They love the "train room" and the family style restaurant,Whispering Canyon. There are so many different activities that we've enjoyed there from late night swims, zipping around on water mice, fishing or snuggling up by the fire reading a book.

Top 3 Favorite Disney Resorts: The Grand Floridian

►The Grand Floridian - Such a beautiful resort. I know some people don't like it because it's so big but we stayed in the Sugar Loaf building and it was like having our own little resort. A few times a day a large buffet was offered for Sugar Loaf guests, set out beautifully in the lobby. Some of those days we actually cancelled breakfast reservations, there was no way we could walk through the lobby without having a nibble or two or three:) It was truly a magical vacation. I enjoyed the restaurants, listening to the piano player and orchestra in the lobby, the spa (just a pedicure) and the view of the MK fireworks displays. We stayed here before leaving for a cruise and will definitely stay again in the future.

Flashback Friday ~ Venetian Mask Shop

It's time for Photo Flashback Friday here at Focused on the Magic!

A visit to The Italy Pavilion at Epcot's World Showcase for me always includes a trip to the Venetian mask shop. It's a tiny little shop packed to the rafters with ornately decorated masks. Sometimes you can see the Venetian mask artist Giorgio Lurcotta painting beautiful paper mache masks in the shop.

On this solo trip I was able to spend as much time as I wanted to. That alone is fun enough for me. I truly enjoyed the feeling of stepping back in time while I wandered around *Italy*.

Flashback Friday ~ Kilimanjaro Safari

It's time for Photo Flashback Friday here at Focused on the Magic!

Time to once again dust off our Walt Disney World photo albums and take another look at some of our favorite photos from vacations past.

This week we're taking a trip back again to Animal Kingdom to ride the safari in the rain. You may have seen these pictures in previous posts but it's a flash back and that's what we'll do.
These pictures were taken on a summer trip I took with Peter. I was reminded of the trip this week when once again Peter injured his patella, during this trip he injured his knee for the first time. He was in a wheelchair for the whole trip.

Throughout the week we had heavy downpours, not uncommon in Florida in the summer. They usually start late in the afternoon and clear out quickly.

The rain and pain didn't dampen his spirits though. We sloshed on. Usually if we're in the parks we just head for an indoor attraction to wait it out but on this day we were in Animal Kingdom close to the safari so we decided to give it a try in the rain. I know animals love the rain and I thought maybe we'd get to see some unusual activity.

Nothing unusual there. Rhinos never seem to stop eating,even in the rain.

This bird looked like he couldn't wait for the rain to stop, not much fun for him. Looking back the safari trucks were empty or had only a few people in them. We were the only two people in ours. If you don't like waiting, this is the best time to ride the safari!

The best part of the safari was when our driver stopped the truck to watch the elephants enjoying the afternoon shower. It was so exciting to see them rollicking in the rain and rolling in the mud.
