Flashback Friday ~ Venetian Mask Shop

It's time for Photo Flashback Friday here at Focused on the Magic!

A visit to The Italy Pavilion at Epcot's World Showcase for me always includes a trip to the Venetian mask shop. It's a tiny little shop packed to the rafters with ornately decorated masks. Sometimes you can see the Venetian mask artist Giorgio Lurcotta painting beautiful paper mache masks in the shop.

On this solo trip I was able to spend as much time as I wanted to. That alone is fun enough for me. I truly enjoyed the feeling of stepping back in time while I wandered around *Italy*.

Flashback Friday ~ Kilimanjaro Safari

This week we're taking a trip back again to Animal Kingdom to ride the safari in the rain. You may have seen these pictures in previous posts but it's a flash back and that's what we'll do.
These pictures were taken on a summer trip I took with Peter. I was reminded of the trip this week when once again Peter injured his patella, during this trip he injured his knee for the first time. He was in a wheelchair for the whole trip.

Throughout the week we had heavy downpours, not uncommon in Florida in the summer. They usually start late in the afternoon and clear out quickly.

The rain and pain didn't dampen his spirits though. We sloshed on. Usually if we're in the parks we just head for an indoor attraction to wait it out but on this day we were in Animal Kingdom close to the safari so we decided to give it a try in the rain. I know animals love the rain and I thought maybe we'd get to see some unusual activity.

Nothing unusual there. Rhinos never seem to stop eating,even in the rain.

This bird looked like he couldn't wait for the rain to stop, not much fun for him. Looking back the safari trucks were empty or had only a few people in them. We were the only two people in ours. If you don't like waiting, this is the best time to ride the safari!

The best part of the safari was when our driver stopped the truck to watch the elephants enjoying the afternoon shower. It was so exciting to see them rollicking in the rain and rolling in the mud.

It's always tough to pick just one photo for a whole month. I wanted to be a little bit more creative with my picture this month. I kept thinking of the saying "April showers bring May flowers"... probably because it's been raining for days:P

This water lily was still wet from the spring rain at The China Pavilion's water feature in Epcot.

This shot was taken from the Liberty Belle while cruising down the Rivers of America. Just out of the picture is the queue that was super long on that hot sticky day in October. It extended out through the canopy and into the square. I felt pretty lucky to be floating along the river enjoying the view.

Disney World News: Easter Egg Display at The Grand Floridian

The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is hosting an "egg-tra" special Easter egg display

Easter is celebrated in a number of ways at Walt Disney World Resort, but this year a new celebration is taking place at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

In fact, you might even say this is an “eggs-elent” way to celebrate.

This year, the lobby of the Grand Floridian will feature its first large-scale Easter egg display. But these eggs aren’t like the ones you might hide in your backyard. The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa pastry chefs hand-decorated these edible (chocolate!) Easter eggs into quite “eggs-eptional” works of art.

I'd like to start off by wishing you all a very Happy Easter Sunday and a very Happy Passover which starts today!!

It's been a busy week for us getting ready for Easter. The eggs are colored, baskets are filled (shhh) and the yard well, it's getting there. The forsythia is in full bloom along with tulips and daffodils. Spring bunnies can be seen playing in the grass and a few frogs are in the ponds. Spring is in the air!

This week I am continuing my Epcot Flower & Garden Festival theme. It's such a great festival and I always enjoy looking back at all the pictures I have of the Flower & Garden Festivals. I can't wait to see the new displays for this year!

Today's pictures are of the fairy houses that were displayed in Pixie Hollow. I enjoyed all the creativity that went into each and every one. It must have taken a long time to design them. The detail is incredible! Each fairy house is displayed nestled in amongst plantings of vines and flowers which gives the appearance that they really are well established residences of fairies.

The first photo is from the Beauty & The Beast Stage Show in Disney Hollywood Studios. The show is filled with fabulous costumes and some over-the-top hats!!

This hat just screams Happy Easter, Spring & April Fools to me!!

Weekly Roundup 3/31

Welcome Disney friends to the 3/31 edition of Focused on the Magic's recap!

Since last I recapped I have suffered from a severe case of Disneyitis resulting in Disney dementia and a high spring fever complicated by computer malfunctions... April Fools:D
As Goofy as it sounds, some of it rings true. My computer did crash. Good news is I'm writing this on my new laptop:) I really am in a constant state of Disneyitis. CLICK HERE to see if you are too. The Disney dementia and spring fever diagnosis is probably from the new computer smell;)
Ok, enough of the foolishness, I'll save the rest for tomorrow;)

On to highlights of pixie dusted postulations from the past 2 weeks...

The most exciting news for me was announced on the first day of Spring! I became a Disney InsidEAR!! CLICK HERE to read all about it.
One of the perks of being an InsidEAR is having access to some great Disney news stories which we are encouraged to share with our online friends. The stories are first released to us hot off the press then to the Disney community a week or so later. Since becoming a Disney InsidEAR I've shared a few of the news stories and here they are:

On Sunday I joined my friend Mike at My Dreams of Disney in his "Disney in Pictures" series. The theme was "Parades" and I shared a picture of Cinderella in her royal coach from the Spectro Magic Parade.

You may have noticed a new blog button for a new feature, Deb's Daily Dose of Disney. As the title implies I am sharing a daily dose of Disney magic through tips, pics, interviews and reviews with just enough pixie dust to give you a Disney fix for the day.

Flashback Friday ~ Pixie Hollow

It's time for Photo Flashback Friday here at Focused on the Magic!

Time to once again dust off our Walt Disney World photo albums and take another look at some of our favorite photos from vacations past.

This week I am continuing my Epcot Flower & Garden Festival theme. I had no idea when I started it I would be on my third week of F&G flashback. It's just too much fun for me, looking back at all the wonderful memories of the Flower & Garden Festival, I just had to share a few more.

Today's pictures are of the topiaries in Pixie Hollow. This is always a must-do attraction for me. I have to confess, I enjoy it most when I'm touring solo or with my flower and gardening buddies. I think my DH and two sons would rather count daisy petals in the wind than visit the flowering fairies at Epcot;)

This attraction is exclusive to The Flower & Garden Festival each year. It's grown in size each year and this year they have added a new fairy friend this year. You can read all about her HERE at The Disney Parks Blog.

Photo opportunities abound in Pixie Hollow so give yourself plenty of time. Sorry this flashback is so brief (and late) but I'm still enjoying " the new computer smell" today while loading up all my stuff. It's intoxicating:)
