Tiggerific Trivia ~ The #Disney Legends Award


Recently it was announced that Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Jobs, Dick Clark and Other Talented Contributors To Disney History will be honored with The Disney Legends Award at D23 2013 Expo. 

When I wrote the post, An August List of Disney Legends to Be Celebrated During #D23 Expo Presentation, I became curious about the awards and did a little digging in Wikipedia. The result was today's trivia.







Did you know these fun facts?

ºoº The inaugural D23 Expo in 2009 honored the Disney Legends with and awards ceremony, which honored Robin Williams, Beatrice Arthur, Estelle Getty, Rue McLanahan, Betty White, Tony Anselmo, Bill Farmer, Harry Archinal, Don Iwerks and Leota Toombs Thomas.


ºoº The Disney Legends award was established in 1987 and is awarded annually.


ºoº  Past Disney Legends included Tim Allen, Robin Williams, Julie Andrews, Howard Ashman, Regis Philbin, Annette Funicello, Peter Jennings, Angela Lansbury, Steve Martin, Alan Menken, Hayley Mills, Fess Parker, Sir Tim Rice, Dick Van Dyke and Barbara Walters.


ºoº Recipients are chosen by a select committee of long time Disney executives, historians and other authorities. The committee was chaired by the late Disney Legend Roy E. Disney (January 10, 1930 – December 16, 2009), Walt Disney's nephew, former vice chairman and director emeritus of The Walt Disney Company.


ºoº Including this year’s honorees, a total of 237 Disney Legends have been named. 

ºoº The first Disney Legend was actor Fred MacMurray who you'll remember from The Shaggy Dog, The Absent-Minded Professor, The Happiest Millionaire.

ºoº Honored in bronze: Each honoree receives and award, a name bag and outside of the Team Disney - Michael D.Eisner Building in Burbank California they are honored in a bronze plaque with their hand prints and signatures.
Artist Andrea Favilli created the Disney Legends award, which is handcrafted from bronze each year. The award depicts the arm of Mickey Mouse holding a star-tipped wand.

The Disney Legends award has three distinct elements that characterize the contributions made by each talented recipient.
The Spiral ... stands for imagination, the power of an idea.
