Top 3 Favorite Disney Resorts

This week's topic is our Top 3 Favorite Walt Disney World Resorts
Narrowing my list down to just 3 resorts was a challenge because I have wonderful memories from every resort I've ever stayed in. To help me along in my decision I've narrowed it down to 3 resorts I would enjoy staying in for Mother's Day Weekend.

► The Boardwalk & The Yacht & Beach Club - I can't decide, I loved them all! We are DVC members at the Boardwalk Villas and I've stayed in the Y&B a few times. I just love all the activites these resorts offer and the restaurants are wonderful too. Just like the GF, they are so full of things to do you could stay at the resort and skip the parks. I can't but I'm sure there are people who do;)

It just so happens that yesterday was The Disney Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop and our theme for the week was Resorts & Relaxation. I chose
►The Wilderness Lodge - This is my sons and husbands favorite too. It's rustic but grand at the same time. They love the "train room" and the family style restaurant,Whispering Canyon. There are so many different activities that we've enjoyed there from late night swims, zipping around on water mice, fishing or snuggling up by the fire reading a book.

Top 3 Favorite Disney Resorts: The Grand Floridian

►The Grand Floridian - Such a beautiful resort. I know some people don't like it because it's so big but we stayed in the Sugar Loaf building and it was like having our own little resort. A few times a day a large buffet was offered for Sugar Loaf guests, set out beautifully in the lobby. Some of those days we actually cancelled breakfast reservations, there was no way we could walk through the lobby without having a nibble or two or three:) It was truly a magical vacation. I enjoyed the restaurants, listening to the piano player and orchestra in the lobby, the spa (just a pedicure) and the view of the MK fireworks displays. We stayed here before leaving for a cruise and will definitely stay again in the future.

Mickey Waffle Locations in Walt Disney World

This week's foodie photo is of a large heaping platter of Mickey waffles dusted with confectioners sugar
These yummy breakfast delights were part of the breakfast buffet at Cape May Cafe, in The Beach Club resort and a favorite family breakfast tradition.

For some Goofy reason Mickey waffles are not a breakfast menu staple in all table serve restaurants.

If Mickey Waffles are a must have for you, then try one of the following dining locations:

ºoº The Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom
ºoº Donald's Safari Breakfast at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom
ºoº Chef Mickey’s in the Contemporary Resort
ºoº 'Ohana in the Polynesian
ºoº 1900 Park Fare in the Grand Floridian
ºoº Whispering Canyon Cafe in the Wilderness Lodge
ºoº Cape May Cafe in the Beach Club
ºoº Boma in Animal Kingdom Lodge
ºoº Captain Cook's in The Polynesian
ºoº  Moderate and DVC resorts with food courts

Have a Disney Day!

Thursday

Gotta have a Dole Whip!

Just the other day I had a major craving for one. To satisfy the craving I had a Healthy Choice bar which is no substitute for a Dole Whip.  Speaking of the real thing. I know there are recipes for making Dole Whips at home and there are home machines that can whip them up for you.
Maybe it's just me but I'd rather save my Dole Whip indulgences for times when I'm in Disney World.
There are just some things-that-should-stay-in-Disney.

You can find Dole Whips at The
Aloha Isle in The Magic Kingdom's Adventureland. They serve up pineapple, vanilla, chocolate and swirl for $2.89 or 1 snack credit on the DDP.

The Wilderness Lodge has self serve machines but only vanilla or chocolate.
Or, you can find a self serve Dole Whip at Captain Cook's counter service restaurant in The Polynesian Resort's.
Dole Whips are refreshing, have a healthy dose of vitamin C, they're fat free, cholesterol free, lactose free and only 80 calories for a 1/2 cup serving. Not a lot of calories for a dessert. Walking around the park would burn that off.
DS didn't want his face full of Dole Whip shown ;P

There's nothing like having a Dole Whip late at night after the fireworks during EMH. I'll pick a quiet table in the corner and just relax thinking back on the days activities.

Speaking of traditions. We have a tradition of having a Dole Whip for Bawb each trip. It started In May of 2008 when I attended a memorial/meet for the late Bob Varley  a wonderfully funny DIS moderator and DISUnplugged Podcaster. That night I went to the MK and had a Dole Whip in his honor, took a pic and posted it on the DISboard thread, A Dole Whip for Bawb. It's one way of remembering and paying tribute to a great guy who is sorely missed.
