Disney Peter Pan Blu-ray & HD Digital Release

Fun Facts:

  • 22 year-old Margaret Kerry was the real-life model for Tinker Bell.
  • Kathryn Beaumont, who provided the voice for Wendy, also performed the live action references. In an interview, she said she had to hold out her arms and pretend to fly for all the scenes requiring it.
  • In compliance with the tradition of the stage version, the same actor, Hans Conried, performed the roles of both Mr. Darling and Captain Hook.
  • The melody for "The Second Star to the Right" was originally written for Alice in Wonderland (1951) for a song that was to be called "Beyond the Laughing Sky".

Super ESPN Zone Spinach and Artichoke Dip

Goofy All Star Sports Football
To be honest, I am not enthusiastic about the Super Bowl this year. I'll be watching for the commercials, the halftime show and who's going to Disney World
While everyone in the house is hootin' and hollerin', I'll be in the kitchen putting a few new recipes to the test. Big Game days are always a good time to try new recipes. This Spinach and Artichoke Dip recipe from The ESPN Zone in the Downtown District at the Disneyland Resort will be a big hit I'm sure and a fan favorite.

Disney Recipe ESPN Spinach Artichoke Dip

Serve with carrot and celery sticks or chips. I'll be serving it with Sweet Potato and Tortilla Chips.
Spinach and Artichoke Dip
Makes 8 cups
4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter
1/4 cup diced onion
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup heavy cream
2 cups whole or 2% milk
1/8 teaspoon white pepper
2 1/2 cups grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon coarse salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons hot sauce, such as Tabasco
8-ounce package cream cheese, cut into cubes and softened
2 1/2 (10-ounce) boxes frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
2 (14.5-ounce) cans quartered artichoke hearts, drained
1 cup shredded mozzarella
Tortilla chips, carrot and celery sticks, garlic bread, for serving
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Melt butter in a large stockpot over medium heat. Add onions and garlic and sauté 2 minutes.
  3. Add flour; cook for 4 minutes, stirring constantly. Slowly whisk in cream and milk, then bring to simmer, whisking often until sauce is thick and coats the back of a spoon.
  4. Add white pepper and Parmesan, stirring until well incorporated. Remove from heat. Add salt, pepper, Worcestershire, and hot sauce. Mix well.
  5. Fold in cream cheese, stirring well until cream cheese is completely incorporated. Add spinach, stirring to combine. Add artichoke hearts, stirring gently so as not to break up the artichokes.
  6. Pour mixture into a 9×9-inch baking dish and sprinkle mozzarella evenly on top.
  7. Bake 15 minutes, or until cheese on top is completely melted and bubbling.
  8. Serve hot with tortilla chips, carrot and celery sticks, and/or garlic bread.

Tiggerific Trivia ~ Sleeping Beauty

Princess Aurora Focused on the Magic

Did you know?

Sleeping Beauty the 1959 animated film produced by Walt Disney and based on the fairy tale "La Belle au bois dormant" by Charles Perrault was released in theaters 54 years ago today, on January 29, 1959.
Sleeping Beauty was the 16th and last Disney animated movie to have it's cels hand-inked.

Fun Facts:
  • The film was directed by Les Clark, Eric Larson and Wolfgang Reitherman under the supervision of Clyde Geronimi.
  • It was the first animated film to be photographed in the Technirama widescreen process. Only one other animated film, Disney's The Black Cauldron (1985), was shot in Technirama.
  • The film's musical score and songs, featuring the work of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, are arrangements or adaptations of numbers from the 1890 Sleeping Beauty ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
There is much debate in Disney fan groups as to the appropriate color of Princess Aurora's gown. Blue or pink both are shown in the film but with blue predominantly. Disney Merchandising post 1990 shows her most often in pink as in the picture below. I think it's because the original blue is worn by Cinderella. It wouldn't do to have two princesses in the same color ball gown;)

When Princess Aurora is born, the entire kingdom is delighted, except for the evil fairy Maleficent, who places a curse on the young beauty that only a prince can break. Sent into hiding for her own safety and protected by fairies Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. "Briar Rose" lives in the forest, unaware of her royal blood. Yet despite everyone's caution, the princess's destiny plays out as she pricks her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel, falling into a deep sleep. It's up to the daring Prince Philip to brave the fire-breathing dragon and awaken the sleeping beauty with true love's kiss.

If I were an Imagineer

Enjoy the ride as we share what new attraction we would put in a Disney park.

Being an Imagineer entails being part scientist and storyteller, I am none of those things. Even in my dreams those are not my great strengths. I can only appreciate and respect the amazing talents and craft that goes into designing a new ride. My task today is to dream and dream big enough to create a ride. Let's see what my minds eye can conjure up.
My ride would combine the best of the classics such as Horizons, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, The Swan Boats, Hydrolators, Mr. Toads Wild Ride, Seacabs and Snow White's Scary Adventure,.
The storyline would fantasmical. A journey through time and space combining a fable, history in futuristic vignettes and real scientific research in a marine life setting.
It would be dark and fast, gliding through the air one minute and taking dips through water another. A solar powered hydroplane made of recycled materials would make a great vehicle. Imagine the vintage 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea ride vehicle plussed up.
There would be light snacks and beverages served pre-flight while waiting in the interactive queue.
At the end of the ride we'd all get a soaking before venturing off into the Florida sun.

New Surprises at the 20th Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival

Disney Resorts has been "plussing it up" again and this time it's
the 20th Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival presented by HGTV.

Mark your calendars, the dates are March 6-May 19, 2013 at Walt Disney World Resort. Most festival activities are included in regular Epcot admission too so you can save your money for the new festival merchandise and new food offerings. Did I say new food offerings? Yes, my foodie friends! Look and see..

New this year:

Floral shares part of the Epcot spotlight with food!
Disney chefs will feature special culinary stations and offer festival-exclusive food and beverages along World Showcase Promenade.

A “Land of Oz” play area, a themed setting based on the Walt Disney Pictures live-action film “Oz The Great and Powerful” (set to debut in theatres March 8).

A 14-foot-tall Disney character topiary can be found at the park’s front entrance featuring Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto Daisy and Donald Duck.

Future World and World Showcase will cast a colorful glow over each festival evening, with a feature succinctly named “Illuminated Gardens.” Also featured in topiary form: the stars from the upcoming Disney-Pixar animated feature film “Monsters University,” and the inventive duo of Phineas & Ferb, from the hit Disney Channel animated series.

But wait, there's even more -
A Radiator Springs interactive play zone, Tinker Bell’s Butterfly House, more than 100 topiaries, nearly 250 floating mini-gardens, dozens of flower towers and beds of multi-colored blooms. It’s truly a “garden party” like no other!

HGTV design celebrities will host Festival Center seminars every Friday through Saturday.
