STRANGE MAGIC, a new animated film from Lucasfilm Ltd., will be released by Touchstone Pictures on January 23, 2015!

“Everyone deserves to be loved” I just love everything about that quote! I was intrigued by the synopsis but now after seeing the trailer and images I am really looking forward it.

Rustico Leather Travel Set Review

There's nothing like traveling with stylish leather accessories! The smell, feel and durability of fine leather goods makes it all feel a little better. Whether it's in my handbags, boots, shoes or coats I love it. And as a travel memory keeper I have always lusted after leather bound travel journals. They seem so permanent and remind me of the classic journals of 19th century world travelers filled with profound prose. Maybe I've seen too many Indian Jones movies.
My collection of journals are filled with notes, pictures, poems, doodles and thoughts. It's an eclectic collection of tattered loose leaf notebooks and worn spiral notebooks. None of them are real journals but I do enjoy reading back through them and reminiscing.
When I was given the opportunity recently to review a Rustico Leather Travel Set I was delighted to put it mildly.

Weekly Look Back and Forward ~ 2/1

It's been awhile since I've posted a Weekly Look Back and Forward. I hope to be better at it in the future because there is always a lot share. So, let's get on with it!
First of all, my #DisneySide @Home celebration box came! Yay! I am so excited and honored to be hosting a party. Stay tuned for the big box reveal coming up this week! I participated in an awesome Twitter party with @MomSelect and lots of my Disney friends this week. We had such a good time! The tweets were flying as well as the pixie dust! I learned a lot and gained some great ideas for my Disney @Home Celebration.

Today we're focusing on a delightful quote from Mary Poppins and a bit of Disney trivia as well. 

"Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down" ~ Mary Poppins

The song and the lyrics have an interesting back story. Julie Andrews wasn't fully committed to the part of Mary Poppins originally. She did not like the song that was written for her, believing it did not have enough snap to it. The original song was called "The Eyes of Love". Walt Disney instructed the Sherman Brothers to come up with something more catchy.

Robert Sherman, the brilliant lyricist created a new song the following day with the help of his children. As he explained it, one evening after arriving home from work and while he and his wife Joyce were discussing the days events, she told him that the children had gotten their polio vaccines. His children recounted that it didn't hurt because the medicine was put on a cube of sugar and that they had swallowed it. The next morning he had the title of the song "A Spoonful of Sugar Helps the Medicine Go Down".

Did You Know?

Initially Walt Disney was not interested in making Dumbo. To get him interested, animators, Joe Grant and Dick Huemer didn't initially submit a completed storyboard but storyboard installments. To peak his interest they had cliff hangers at the end of each "chapter". One "chapter" was left on Walt's desk every morning. Finally, he ran into the story department saying, "This is great! What happens next?"

Guest Star Day ~ A Disney Mom's Thoughts

Welcome to another edition of Guest Star Day! Some of you have asked why I post Guest Star Day on a Friday here at Focused on the Magic and not on Tuesday, the established day for the Mickey Mouse Club TV Show. That's a good question. Tuesday on this blog is happily reserved each week for Tiggerific Trivia where we participate with Jodi of Magical Mouse Schoolhouse in a Disney trivia blog hop. Stop by sometime, it's a lot of fun and you might learn something too.Our Guest Star Day is a spin on the MMC TV show . We have a guest, we have a star, it's all about Disney but that's about all we have in common. Oh, one other difference, our stars are not professional entertainers, at least none so far, but real life stars as bloggers, moms, dads, authors and artists who share a love of all things Disney.

Destination Disney ~ Quoting Walt Disney

For this week’s Destination Disney in Quotes, we’re focusing on a famous quote from Walt Disney himself. 

Note he doesn't say Don't worry or It'll be alright. He had learned through his own struggles that sometimes we just have to stay strong and deal with whatever comes our way. 

Just last month I was reminded of this quote during Hurricane Sandy. There were power failures, long lines at the gas pump across the Atlantic coastline. The situation for many of us was and still is grim. I can only hope that we will look back on it and have learned life lessons to take forward. I know our family has learned a lot about ourselves already.

Welcome back to another Week in Review of Focused on the Magic! We managed to stay focused on the magic of Disney World with photos, contests, and great Disney online reads this week as we prepared for "Frankenstorm", the mega hurricane that is about to hit us hard here in NJ.
