Rustico Leather Travel Set Review

There's nothing like traveling with stylish leather accessories! The smell, feel and durability of fine leather goods makes it all feel a little better. Whether it's in my handbags, boots, shoes or coats I love it. And as a travel memory keeper I have always lusted after leather bound travel journals. They seem so permanent and remind me of the classic journals of 19th century world travelers filled with profound prose. Maybe I've seen too many Indian Jones movies.
My collection of journals are filled with notes, pictures, poems, doodles and thoughts. It's an eclectic collection of tattered loose leaf notebooks and worn spiral notebooks. None of them are real journals but I do enjoy reading back through them and reminiscing.
When I was given the opportunity recently to review a Rustico Leather Travel Set I was delighted to put it mildly.

I had my choice of the following:

Traveler Set:

  • Travelers Journal (saddle or dark brown)
  • Passport cover (saddle or dark brown),
  • Luggage tag (saddle or dark brown and grey wool felt)
Writer Set:
  • Single track wallet
  • Wool quote book
  • Wool Parley Journal with wrap tie
Foodie Set:
  • Wine log
  • Coaster set
  • Explorer bag

It  was a tough decision and I went back and forth between all three of the beautifully crafted sets. In the end I knew that I would be able to use each piece of the Travel Set right away. I had just received a new piece of luggage and my passport cover needs replacing. The journal would be a dream come true to write in.

The Traveler's Leather Journal is the best selling leather journal that Rustico leather offers and I can see why. It is so versatile. It's the perfect size for my camera bag or tote bag. Easy to jot down notes and thoughts on my adventures or at the end of the day while reviewing my experiences. Dreaming here but I can see myself slipping into a corner cafe in some exotic city and writing while sipping Chai.
As far as what would be the best pen to use with it, I'll be using a ballpoint pen or pencil. That's what I use when I travel anyway because they are less likely to smudge and leak in my camera bag. I know they aren't very classy but they are practical.

The Traveler's Leather Journal

The 5 sections of cream colored writing paper are bound to the spine in a series of stitches. The paper has the feel of handmade paper with irregular hand cut edges. Overall this journal looks like it will last a very long time and wear very well. The leather has a nice patina and will age beautifully.Taking care of the leather will be easy. A quick wipe will do job. It is durable and very well made.

The Rustico leather Passport Cover

The Rustico leather Passport Cover is made of the same high quality workmanship as the journal. It has two insert pockets that are the perfect fit for American passports. Even the Russian passport fits nicely. The leather interior makes it easy to remove your passport. My old one is too tight and stiff. I look forward to not struggling and fumbling to get my passport out. The Passport Cover will give me added feeling of safety and security while traveling!

Wool Luggage Tag Hand Sewn

The third item I received was the Leather/Wool Luggage Tag. I am looking forward to dressing up my new luggage with this tag. It has a buckle closure, wool felt on one side and leather trim ID window on the other. It has a vintage feel but it's strong and durable. I've had many plastic tags snap right off. The Rustico leather tag will hold up very nicely and give me a sense of security in my travels. It will be easy to spot on the baggage carousel too!

Rustico Leather makes quality leather goods and all would be perfect gifts for someone special. I know that I will be purchasing the journals for gifts.
If you like leather goods as much as I do, you’ll be impressed with the uniqueness and craftsmanship that goes into every piece. Best of all they are made in the US!
