Wordless Wednesday ~ A Flash From The Past

The year was 1991
It was March and we were staying at the Contemporary.

Chef Mickey's character breakfast every day with Mickey waffles and plenty of characters.
Good times were recorded on VH-C by DH and a Nikon FE 35mm by me.

Enthusiastic hug from DS.....with his autograph pen in hand!!!!!

I can't believe I actually carried a Gucci purse around in the parks and those white pleated pants!
Ugh, I guess I am that old!!!!!!!!

It's 90s Week over at Sorcerer Radio .  Give a listen it's a blast from the past!

Foto Friday ~ The Liberty Belle Riverboat

The Liberty Belle docked at The Liberty Square Riverboat Landing. During the daytime you can hop aboard The Liberty Belle, an authentic replica of a 3 tiered paddle wheel riverboat for a leisurely ride down the Rivers of America. The scenic half-mile journey circles Tom Sawyer Island in The Magic Kingdom with views of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Liberty Square and Frontierland. My DH loves this ride, especially when it's hot! If you've never taken this ride be sure to add it to your to-do list for the next time you're in Disney World. There are plenty of surprises along the way.. ..keep a look out.

Wordless Wednesday ~ World Showcase Message

Nautical flowerbed flags sweep around the shores of East and West Lakes leaving a coded message for guests during The Flower & Garden Festival. I'm anxious to find out what this years World Showcase flower message will be.

The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

©Focused on the

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is a stately luxury hotel and spa located at the Walt Disney World Resort on The Seven Seas Lagoon.

The grand design of The Grand Floridian was inspired by Victorian era beach resorts built along Florida's east coast. In its exterior architecture and design you can see hints of the Hotel del Coronado in CA (another of our favorite hotels) with red gabled roofs and white walls.

The theme of the resort may be Victorian with it's chintz and gingerbread but all of it's amenities are thoroughly modern. The hotel's main building features an amazing five story lobby, a caged elevator, stained glass domes, and Italian marble floors throughout. There's a concert grand piano in the main lobby where you can usually find a piano player playing familiar Disney tunes. A grand escape on a warm Florida afternoon. It's a perfect resort to stay in pre-cruise as this is one of the hotels that the Disney Cruise Line bus will pick you up from.

Yes, you can request a building when you're making a reservation. No guarantees of course. The Sugarloaf Key (Concierge #6101-6424) building is my favorite (upper floor with a pool view) and definitely the building I'll request next time. It's a beautiful relaxing resort that offers something for everyone. I'll be posting my reviews of the dining locations and activities available at The Grand Floridian in weeks to come.

See ya real soon!

A Great Irish Poet In Bronze at The Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant

“Céad Míle Fáilte”
One Hundred Thousand Welcomes

It's time to get your green on and head to The Raglan Road™ Irish Pub and Restaurant where the cuisine is Irish and every day is a celebration of all things Irish. Traditional pub fare is served in a spirited atmosphere. Enjoy beer on tap and live nightly entertainment. This is a favorite stop of ours anytime of year. Very relaxed and welcoming and the food is great! I'll be posting some pictures soon.
Located in Downtown Disney, West Side.
Prices Range: $$ ($15 to $35.99)

Before you enter the pub, look for the bronze statue of the famous Irish poet, Patrick Kavanagh sitting on a park bench in front. Regarded as one of the foremost poets of the 20th century, Patrick Kavanagh's best known works include the novel Tarry Flynn and the poems Raglan Road (thus the name of the pub) and The Great Hunger. Patrick Kavanagh was often seen relaxing alone on a park bench by the Grand canal in Dublin.
When he passed away in 1967 after a long struggle with lung cancer, he was commemorated with a statue by the banks of the Grand canal in Dublin.
To this day, after every St. Patrick's Day parade you'll find his friends gathering at the bench.
Today, the only replica of this statue is found right outside The Raglan Road Pub and Restaurant in Downtown Disney!

Raglan Road

On Raglan Road on an autumn day I met her first and knew that her dark hair would weave a snare that I might one day rue;

I saw the danger, yet I walked along the enchanted way, And I said, let grief be a fallen leaf at the dawning of the day.
On Grafton Street in November we tripped lightly along the ledge of the deep ravine where can be seen the worth of passion's pledge,
The Queen of Hearts still making tarts and I not making hay -O I loved too much and by such and such is happiness thrown away.
I gave her gifts of the mind I gave her the secret sign that's known
To the artists who have known the true gods of sound and stone
And word and tint. I did
not stint for I gave her poems to say.
With her own name there and her own dark hair like clouds over fields of May On a quiet street where old ghosts meet I see her walking n
Away from me so hurriedly my reason must allow that I had wooed not as I should a creature made of clay -When the angel woos the clay he'd lose his wings at the dawn of day.

-- Patrick Kavanagh

Saol fada chugat,
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Pic of The Day ~ The Sun and Moon in Italy

A visit to The Italy Pavilion at Epcot's World Showcase for me always includes a trip to the Venetian mask shop. The Venetian mask artist Giorgio Lurcotta can sometimes be seen painting beautiful and mysterious paper mache masks inside the small shop.
