Top 3 Favorite Disney Resorts

This week's topic is our Top 3 Favorite Walt Disney World Resorts
Narrowing my list down to just 3 resorts was a challenge because I have wonderful memories from every resort I've ever stayed in. To help me along in my decision I've narrowed it down to 3 resorts I would enjoy staying in for Mother's Day Weekend.

Top 3 Favorite Disney Resorts: The Yacht & Beach Club ResortsTop 3 Favorite Disney Resorts: The Yacht & Beach Club Resorts

► The Boardwalk & The Yacht & Beach Club - I can't decide, I loved them all! We are DVC members at the Boardwalk Villas and I've stayed in the Y&B a few times. I just love all the activites these resorts offer and the restaurants are wonderful too. Just like the GF, they are so full of things to do you could stay at the resort and skip the parks. I can't but I'm sure there are people who do;)

It just so happens that yesterday was The Disney Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop and our theme for the week was Resorts & Relaxation. I chose
►The Wilderness Lodge - This is my sons and husbands favorite too. It's rustic but grand at the same time. They love the "train room" and the family style restaurant,Whispering Canyon. There are so many different activities that we've enjoyed there from late night swims, zipping around on water mice, fishing or snuggling up by the fire reading a book.

Top 3 Favorite Disney Resorts: The Grand Floridian

►The Grand Floridian - Such a beautiful resort. I know some people don't like it because it's so big but we stayed in the Sugar Loaf building and it was like having our own little resort. A few times a day a large buffet was offered for Sugar Loaf guests, set out beautifully in the lobby. Some of those days we actually cancelled breakfast reservations, there was no way we could walk through the lobby without having a nibble or two or three:) It was truly a magical vacation. I enjoyed the restaurants, listening to the piano player and orchestra in the lobby, the spa (just a pedicure) and the view of the MK fireworks displays. We stayed here before leaving for a cruise and will definitely stay again in the future.

Walt Disney World Resort Transportation

Motor Launches and Motor Cruisers (also referred to as a water taxi or water launch) provide transportation between the Magic Kingdom and several of the Walt Disney World Resorts.
One of our families favorite forms of Walt Disney World transportation are the Motor Launches and Motor Cruisers. So much so that my husband asks before I make the resort reservation if it has monorail or boat service. It's just so relaxing after a long day in the parks to hop aboard one of the boats and cruise back to the resort and in the morning it's just a perfect way to start the day. The boat captains can be quite entertaining too. If you have a chance sit up front do so, you may get to hear the captain tell jokes or tales of the Seven Seas Lagoon.
Motor Launch to the Grand Floridian

ºoº

The resorts serviced by motor launches and motor cruisers are:
• Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
• Disney's Polynesian Resort
• Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground
• Disney's Wilderness Lodge

What's the difference between a motor launch and a motor cruiser?
Motor Launches are open sided with wooden bench seats. The canopy provides protection from the sun and some protection from the rain. You may encounter a wet seat or two after a rain shower.

Motor Cruisers are larger and have enclosed sides with sliding windows. There are outside benches for seating in the bow (front) and in the stern (rear) of the cruiser.

The resorts and their flag colors:
There are two Blue Flag motor launches providing service to the Contemporary Resort, Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness Campgrounds starting daily at 6:45am.
Two Gold Flag motor launches run from the Magic Kingdom to the Grand Floridian and Polynesian and then back to the Magic Kingdom. They typically run from an hour before park opening to and hour after the Magic Kingdom closes. The wait time is between 15 to 20 minutes.
The Wilderness Lodge (Red Flag) is serviced by one motor launch and one motor cruiser and begin each day at 8:30am unless there are Early Extra Magic Hours. They run at night till one hour after park closing unless there is Night Extra Magic Hours.
The Fort Wilderness Campground is serviced by two (Green Flag) motor cruisers running from 8:30am to approximately 1 hour after the Magic Kingdom closes. These boats only run between the Magic Kingdom and Fort Wilderness Campground.

Both the Red and Green Flag lines operate for Extra Magic Hour Mornings and also for evening Extra Magic Hours so there is always transportation across the waterways to your resort and the Magic Kingdom.
Motor Cruiser to the Magic Kingdom

When we have a choice I prefer to sit up front in the bow of motor cruisers. It gives me a chance to snap pictures of the Seven Seas Lagoon and the water bridge channel to Bay Lake. I especially like it in the evening as the sun is setting. The colors are amazing!

Neat bit of boat trivia:
  • Both of the launches run clockwise until 3pm when they reverse direction. Both launches run until 11:30pm
  • The Motor Cruisers are named Mermaid I, Bon Voyage, and Castaways.
Motor Launch & Motor Cruiser Map

ECVs can be accommodated on motor cruisers if the water level is low causing a big gap between the dock and the ramp. Strollers and wheelchairs must be folded to board motor launches. ECVs cannot board motor launches.

Disney Recipes: Yachtsman Steakhouse Strawberry Shortcake with Lemon Cornbread

Happy Foodie Friday Folks!
This week’s featured food favorite is a delicious dessert recipe from
Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. Yachtsman Steakhouse is a Family-Friendly Signature Dining experience that serves up the most mouthwatering steaks and fish dinners.
This recipe is one way I like to bring the magic of Disney into our home. I save the Grand Marnier version for special occasions. It's still delicious and everyone raves about it.

Favorite Walt Disney World Resort

This month's topic is A thousand worlds in one - which resort is "home" to you and why?
My favorite Walt Disney World  Resort and one I call "home" is The Boardwalk Villas. We became members of The Disney Vacation Club (DVC)  in 1998 at The Boardwalk Villas. After staying across Crescent Lake at The Yacht/Beach Club a few times we got to know and love the Epcot resort area.
The Boardwalk Villas (BWV) charm and elegant turn-of-the-century seaside resort theme  makes me feel as though I were stepping back in time. A time when woman carried parasols and men straw boaters. The attention to detail is amazing and there seems to be a beautiful Victorian story related to the details.

The miniature carousel in the lobby was hand-crafted in the early1900s at NY's Coney Island by M.C. Illions, a master designer and manufacturer of merry-go-rounds.

Everywhere you look there's something to remind you of that wonderful era. It is also such a good feeling to hear "welcome home" after a long day of travel or park touring as you enter the lobby.

I enjoy sitting in a wicker rocker at The Bellevue Room reading or having cocktails before dinner. Also, a great place for the boys to grab a morning snack and hang out while mom is getting ready for the day;)

Food is more than just sustenance for us when we are on vacation. It's become a large part of our trips. During The Food & Wine Festival it is the trip! The BoardWalk area is full of great dining options that are insanely good.
For a full sit down breakfast we frequent Kouzzina and Cape May Buffet. On days we're eating in DS will do a "muffin run" with our refillable mugs and bring back tasty fresh baked treats from The Bakery with coffee. They also make very good lunches and breakfasts that are 1C credit on the Disney Dining Plan.
The atmosphere on the BoardWalk day and night is great, there's always something to do.

Out on the BoardWalk there's entertainment with jugglers, musicians and fun games for all ages. When my kids were old enough to, I didn't mind letting them wander around a bit while we sat on a bench and relaxed. It's a safe fun place to be. Now they like to hang out and make friends on their own. DH & I enjoy the dueling pianos at Jellyrolls and Wed. night is DVC night at Atlantic Dance which I can't seem to drag DH too;) My sister and I had fun there but the night's not over until we stop in at Seashore Sweets for a "Black & White" soda..YUM! If you've never had one, the ingredients are chocolate syrup, milk, ice cream, vanilla extract and fountain/club soda. Try it sometime!!

The  activities at the BWV's are numerous and you can't possibly do every activity. I usually read the newsletter when we first arrive to plan what we'll be doing at the resort.
Some of the things we like to do are renting "water mice" to buzz around Crescent Lake or a fishing excursion. There are standard bikes to rent at the community hall and outside in front of the resort you can rent surrey bikes that will fit up to 6 people.
The kids have fun riding the 200-foot-long Keister Coaster water slide at the Villa's circus-themed Luna Park Pool, and the really little ones enjoy  splashing around under the water spouting elephants . DH & I enjoy the quiet pools or spas at night. There's Muscles & Bustles Health Club, with state-of-the-art exercise equipment that we've only walked through. I don't exercise while on vacation unless you count all the walking around the parks. There's also an arcade that we enjoy on rainy days. The Community Hall has lots of games and DVDs to borrow.

The BWV's, are located exactly where my family likes to be too, halfway between Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios (DHS). It's a nice stroll over to Epcot or you can take one of the Friendship boats. The walk to Epcot is about 5-10 minutes and the walk to DHS is about 20 min depending on my energy level.

Hi Ho!!!!!!

My sons and even DH would rather walk than take the Friendship boats back and forth to Epcot or DHS. I'm the one that has to be convinced and eventually I'll give in to their requests. Secretly, I enjoy these leisurely walks (even after a long day walking around the parks) because it's the perfect time to have a long uninterrupted conversation with them. Walking and talking while sharing a lot of laughs. Like this candid moment. No warning just a "Look Mom!"

Over the years we’ve stayed in just about all the different sizes of accommodations, views and locations that are available, except the grand villa. Studios, one bedroom villas, two bedroom villas separate and lock-offs. I don't have a preference. Each one has offered its own unique experience for us.

I love having a kitchen and laundry right in the villas. I don't cook big sit down meals when we're on vacation but it's nice to have sandwiches or light meals. I do laundry and when DS would visit from college I did a lot of laundry.

When our two boys were small we would stay in a one bedroom with the boys sleeping on the pull-out couch in the living room.As they got bigger and older we started staying in a two bedroom if we traveled all together.

It's very relaxing and quiet. I've never had a problem with noisy neighbors (unlike some other resorts) or sounds coming from the BoardWalk. If you're on the canal side you do hear the boat horn as it goes under the Swan & Dolphin bridge, but I like that. One of our favorite things to do is sit on the balcony at the end of a long day, eat popcorn, sip wine and chat about the days events.

The Boardwalk Villas has so much to offer our family. As you can imagine over the years I've built up quite a sentimental affection for the BWV. That's why it's our favorite WDW resort!

Do you have a favorite WDW resort?

Date Night at Disney

My favorite resorts for date nights are The Yacht & Beach Club Resort, The Grand Floridian Resort and Spa and The Wilderness Lodge with The Yacht & Beach Club resort having the best atmosphere. I love strolling along Disney's BoardWalk and stopping in at Jelly Rolls for a dueling piano sing-a-long.

Disney Date Nights

At the very top of my favorites though is Palo on the Disney Magic and Wonder cruise ships. Palo is the adult only restaurant serving northern Italian cuisine. Every dish we've ever tried there has been delicious and served beautifully. Palo is located at the top of both ships with a panoramic view of the top deck and sea beyond. Seatings start at 6pm and is the perfect spot to watch the sunset. This has been a must do on each of our 4 cruises.

While on the Wonder we enjoy heading to Route 66 for drinks at the Cadillac Lounge and dancing at Wavebands. On the Magic the Beat Street section and the Rockin-D Bar offers up grown-up music and fun...and we have fun. On our last cruise my husband sang karaoke while dressed in a pirate outfit, complete with parrot and eye patch. That was a memorable date night!
