Flashback Friday ~ Pixie Hollow

It's time for Photo Flashback Friday here at Focused on the Magic!

Time to once again dust off our Walt Disney World photo albums and take another look at some of our favorite photos from vacations past.

If you are new to the hop, Welcome! I hope you enjoy your visit. For those returning, Welcome Back! If you are new here and would like to join in on the fun, you'll find out how at the end of this post. I would love to have you share your flashback photos with us.

This week I am continuing my Epcot Flower & Garden Festival theme. I had no idea when I started it I would be on my third week of F&G flashback. It's just too much fun for me, looking back at all the wonderful memories of the Flower & Garden Festival, I just had to share a few more.

Today's pictures are of the topiaries in Pixie Hollow. This is always a must-do attraction for me. I have to confess, I enjoy it most when I'm touring solo or with my flower and gardening buddies. I think my DH and two sons would rather count daisy petals in the wind than visit the flowering fairies at Epcot;)

This attraction is exclusive to The Flower & Garden Festival each year. It's grown in size each year and this year they have added a new fairy friend this year. You can read all about her HERE at The Disney Parks Blog.

Photo opportunities abound in Pixie Hollow so give yourself plenty of time. Sorry this flashback is so brief (and late) but I'm still enjoying " the new computer smell" today while loading up all my stuff. It's intoxicating:)

This weekend we'll be celebrating Mother's Day and today I'd like to share a post about one very magical Disney Mother's Day Surprise.

Photo Flashback ~ Friday the 13th

It's time for Photo Flashback Friday here at Focused on the Magic!

Time to once again dust off my Walt Disney World photo albums and take another look at some of my favorite photos from vacations past.
Friday the 13th seems like a fun day to have a look back at Tower of Terror and
The Haunted Mansion

This shot was taken from the Liberty Belle while cruising down the Rivers of America. Just out of the picture is the queue that was super long on that hot sticky day in October. It extended out through the canopy and into the square. I felt pretty lucky to be floating along the river enjoying the view.

Flashback Friday ~ Venetian Mask Shop

Would like to join in on the fun? You'll find out how to at the end of this post. I would love to have you share your flashback photos with us.

Today is a quick flashback to my solo trip. Quick, because we're having a pretty big thunder storm and the power may go out any minute.
A visit to The Italy Pavilion at Epcot's World Showcase for me always includes a trip to the Venetian mask shop. It's a tiny little shop packed to the rafters with ornately decorated masks. Sometimes you can see the Venetian mask artist Giorgio Lurcotta painting beautiful paper mache masks in the shop.
On this solo trip I was able to spend as much time as I wanted to. That alone is fun enough for me. I truly enjoyed the feeling of stepping back in time while I wandered around *Italy*

Photo Flashback Friday ~ Flights Of Wonder

Focused on the Magic Flashback Friday LogoIt's Photo Flashback Friday! Time to once again enter the Wayback Machine and have another look at our old Disney photos.
Today's flashback photos are from a magical trip we took with my sister and her family. It was an eventful, magical trip with lots of lasting memories but one stuck out in my head. We were standing in front of Flights Of Wonder at Animal Kingdom in Disney World.
My son, nieces and nephews were all excited about the show, Flight of Wonder. They had read about it and thought it sounded interesting and wondered why it wasn't on our touring plans. What they didn't know was that my sister is terrified of birds.
Ever since we were little she's been creeped out by them. We had parakeets growing up and she saw the movie Birds and well somewhere along the way something must've snapped or bitten. We decided we didn't want to spoil everyones fun so my sister, who's a good sport, agreed to go in if we sat in the back. It had been awhile since I had seen it and totally forgot that sitting in the back doesn't mean you won't be close to the action.

*spoiler alert* Everyone was having a great time (even my sister) enjoying the show until the part where the giant bird swoops down over the audience. The audience cheered loudly while my sister gasped and choked back a scream! After the show we all agreed it was a great experience, even my sister!!!
Flights of Wonder is an interesting, educational and wonderful show. Don't exclude it from your touring plans..even if you are afraid of birds;)

Flashback Friday ~ Kilimanjaro Safari

It's time for Photo Flashback Friday here at Focused on the Magic!

Time to once again dust off our Walt Disney World photo albums and take another look at some of our favorite photos from vacations past.

If you are new to the Flashback Friday Hop, Welcome! I hope you enjoy your visit. For those returning, Welcome Back! If you are new here and would like to join in on the fun, you'll find out how to at the end of this post. I would love to have you share your flashback photos with us.

This week we're taking a trip back again to Animal Kingdom to ride the safari in the rain. You may have seen these pictures in previous posts but it's a flash back and that's what we'll do.
These pictures were taken on a summer trip I took with Peter. I was reminded of the trip this week when once again Peter injured his patella, during this trip he injured his knee for the first time. He was in a wheelchair for the whole trip.

Throughout the week we had heavy downpours, not uncommon in Florida in the summer. They usually start late in the afternoon and clear out quickly.

The rain and pain didn't dampen his spirits though. We sloshed on. Usually if we're in the parks we just head for an indoor attraction to wait it out but on this day we were in Animal Kingdom close to the safari so we decided to give it a try in the rain. I know animals love the rain and I thought maybe we'd get to see some unusual activity.
Nothing unusual there. Rhinos never seem to stop eating, even in the rain.
This bird looked like he couldn't wait for the rain to stop, not much fun for him. Looking back the safari trucks were empty or had only a few people in them. We were the only two people in ours. If you don't like waiting, this is the best time to ride the safari!

The best part of the safari was when our driver stopped the truck to watch the elephants enjoying the afternoon shower. It was so exciting to see them rollicking in the rain and rolling in the mud.

Photo Flashback ~ Flower & Garden Festival

Focused on the Magic Flashback Friday LogoIt's Photo Flashback Friday! Time to once again enter the Wayback Machine and have another look at our Disney photos.
In honor of the opening of the Flower & Garden Festival this week I have a flower filled flashback from a magical trip I took to Walt Disney World in 2010.

This was such a special trip because it was my first full solo week. It was a wonderful experience even though I missed the family very much. You can read all about how it came to be here

It was a very hot sunny afternoon (as you can see from the blown out skies) in May that I took these pictures of the Beauty and The Beast display, which was located on the lagoon side of France. Cogsworth looks like he's enjoying the sunny day but at this point we were melting and ready for some lunch.

On this trip I organized a photowalk around the festival. We met in the morning at the entrance to Epcot and then followed the special Flower & Garden Festival program all the way around the Word Showcase snapping away.

Doesn't Lumiere looked surprised? I love the expression they are able to create from simple plant material.
It was a magical day with a lot of picture taking and photography chatting, stopping for lunch in Italy and riding a few rides.
I'll be posting more of our adventure and my solo week in my next Flashback and throughout the month!

Photo Flashback ~ 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea

Focused on the Magic Flashback Friday LogoIt's Photo Flashback Friday! Time to once again enter the Wayback Machine and have another look at our old Disney photos.
Today's flashback photos may be familiar to you. I've posted them before. Sorry, but I really enjoy looking at them. They bring back many happy memories from the late 1980's & 90's. As you can see they are scans of matte finished pictures. The matte finish gives them a vintage look. Come to think of it, they are vintage!
Sail with Captain Nemo on a submarine voyage aboard the "Nautilus" and explore lost undersea worlds.
The submarine ride 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea was located in Fantasyland in The Magic Kingdom. It was later re-imagineered into Ariel's Grotto as a Meet & Greet area.
I really enjoyed this ride even if it was cramped and the line waiting to board was long. It was always worth the wait. There were no characters or animatronics involved but a lot of imaginearing.
What a magical voyage! Pin It

Photo Flashback: Disney Friends

Focused on the Magic Flashback Friday LogoIt's Photo Flashback Friday! Time to once again enter the Wayback Machine and have another look at our old Disney photos.
Today's flashback photos may contain some familiar faces for you. These pictures were taken during a 2010 AllEars meet in Epcot. At same the time The Flower & Garden Festival was happening and everywhere you looked there were beautiful displays of flowers. Two of my faves, flowers and friends!!
L-R: Barrie Brewer, Deb Wills, Deb (moi), & Steve Barrett posing while Disney Friend John (of Tagrel fame) snapped this picture.
I love connecting with Disney Friends. I just wish I could do it more often. It was so very good to see Disney friend Deb from AllEars.net. We had fun reminiscing about the early days of RADP, a Usenet newsgroup that was the online meeting place of Disney fans in the early 90's, and catching up on all the new things happening in our lives. Barrie & I chatted about photography, of course. Check out her pictures and advice column sometime, they are amazing!!
For lunch we headed over to Morocco to grab a bite and made a special Hidden Mickey just for Steve, the HiddenMickeyGuy ºoº What a magical meet!!

Photo Flashback ~ Castaway Cay

Focused on the Magic Flashback Friday LogoIt's Photo Flashback Friday! Time to once again enter the Wayback Machine and discovered (unearthed) a new, old Disney photo to share with you.

Today's pictures and ephemera are from a magical cruise aboard The Disney Cruise Line ship The Magic.

A scrapbook page taken from our album showing route we took on the ship. Beginning and ending our trip at the Grand Floridian in Florida.

This was taken at Castaway Cay, Disney's own private island. A stop on the
 cruise to the Bahamas.
A fun activity aboard any of the Disney cruises is collecting trading cards.
As you may notice in this card, Chip & Dale appear to be waving their shorts in the air. After closer inspection and a little reading you'll see, it's a napkin from Parrot Cay while they do the "breakfast hand jive".
Lots of Disney fun early in the morning!
