Tuesday Trivia ~ Spaceship Earth

Ever wonder if the Morse code message being sent in Epcot's Spaceship Earth is a real message? Recently, I found out the answer to that question and more while playing around with Lou Mongello's WDW Disney World Trivia iPhone app.

The Morse code message received in the telegraph office is a real message. It announces the driving of the golden spike at Promontory Park in 1869, the event that linked the transcontinental railroad.
Another neat bit of trivia I learned from the same app is that in Spaceship Earth, the steam press in the 20th century scene is an exact replica of one developed by William Bullock in 1863!

Last week as the monorail glided into Epcot and I snapped this picture to start our Epcot 30th Anniversary celebration I was once again struck by the amazing architecture of Spaceship Earth.

Photo Flashback

It's time for Photo Flashback Friday here at Focused on the Magic! Time to once again dust off our Walt Disney World photo albums and take another look at some of our favorite photos and memorabilia from vacations past.

Today we are sharing a picture of Spaceship Earth taken during the 15 month long Millennium Celebration. What's interesting about this picture is that there is a crane poised next to the hand and wand to take it down. You could almost hear guests chanting "Take it down! Take it all down!" as they walked past.
