Our Favorite Things in New Fantasyland

New Fantasyland in Disney World is the largest expansion
in Magic Kingdom's 41 year old history and it's opening was highly anticipated by myself and my son Peter. We got our chance to experience it in May. This was a mother and son 10 day, 3 resort photography trip. The New Fantasyland photo ops were amazing!

I had tried staying away from hearing all the details and seeing pictures from friends who had experienced it during the opening as I wanted our experience to be filled with as much of the Disney magic as possible. I'm glad I did, it was fun experiencing New Fantasyland with very few preconceived ideas or expectations.

There are so many favorite things to share from our trip that it was difficult but I narrowed it down to just a few with lots of pictures, of course;)

As you first enter New Fantasyland you see Maurice's Cottage nestled in the mountainside. This is where you we got a chance to experience Enchanted Tales with Belle. I wrote about it in a WW post HERE. It was a special treat for both of us. Peter was the reluctant guest at first but he came around and now considers it one of his favorites. Belle's couldn't have more gracious with all the shy young men in the audience.

We were very fortunate to be able to have lunch at Be Our Guest Restaurant. It was the one thing I read about prior to our visit and I knew that it was a must do even though we had to wait in the blistering sun and wilting heat. We arrived at about 1:30 which was perfect because the lunch queue ends at 2 PM in preparation their dinner service. It was so hot CM's were passing out water bottles to guests waiting in line. While the wait was harsh it did give us an opportunity to take lots of pictures. Once inside we sat in the main dining room and because it was close to the end of lunch service we got a chance to have a leisurely lunch, chat with Cast Members and take a tour of the restaurant.

Peter had the best time the first night when we stopped in at Gaston's Tavern for a LeFou Brew after dinner. We decided to also purchase a cinnamon bun. We hadn't intended on eating the bun but save it for later as a midnight snack. We couldn't stop after just one bite and ate the whole thing right there. I rolled out of Gaston's Tavern feeling quite full. It was delicious.

The end of our first day was topped off by watching Wishes from the New Fantasyland bridge. We were the only people there just absorbing the last bit of magic with fireworks exploding all around us.

What are some of your favorite things to do in New Fantasyland?

  1. On our last trip, we did not get to experience the new Fantasyland due to things being closed or 75 minute waits. :-) But we can't wait to get back there to experience it all! Beauty and the Beats is my favorite of the princess movies, so Enchanted Tales with Belle tops our list for out next trip!
