Disney Food Friday: The Making of a Minnie Mouse Candy Apple Tutorial

Whenever we are in Disney Springs a must do is Goofy's Candy Company. While browsing the cases laden with delicious sweet treats and stuffing by-the-pound bags to take home we enjoy watching the bakers making confectioneries in the show kitchen. Making candy apples for your #DisneySide @HomeCelebration would have the kids (big and small) squealing with delight. It's a great way bring back happy memories of Walt Disney World.

Here's a yummy tutorial from the Disney Park Blog: Making Minnie Mouse Candy Apples at Marceline's Confectionary that I'm going to try to follow when I make mine.
Candy maker Margie Bursiaga does her magic at Marceline’s Confectionary in Disneyland's Downtown Disney District.

My Disney Side: Hidden Mickey Hunting

My Disney Side: Contemporary Resort Hidden Mickey Hunting

For this series of blog posts I am looking back at some of the ways I've shown my #DisneySide over the years. Hidden Mickey hunting has been part of our family trips since the early 90's.

I first started hunting for them when I was part of a great online discussion group called Rec.Arts.Disney.Parks or RADP. We would discuss Hidden Mickeys and their location in the group and then go try to find them in the parks.

Hunting for Hidden Mickeys was an extra magical diversion for my then very young son, while standing in lines waiting for attractions or rides. Sometimes I'd bring a list to refer to. Most times we'd wing it and just try to discover them ourselves. After the trip we'd confirm our sightings or report new ones to the group.

Walt Disney World Resort Closures and Refurbishments for January 2014

Walt Disney World Resort Closures and Refurbishments for January 2014
January is a wonderful month to visit Walt Disney World Resort. My family has always enjoyed our January trips. It's cooler and If you time it right you can enjoy some of the lowest crowd levels of the year. Marathon Weekend and Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend are the busiest and even those are nothing like the crowds of Christmas. January is also the month for rehabs and closures.

Beyond the Attractions: A Guide to Walt Disney World with Preschoolers {2014} by Lisa M. Battista

Beyond the Attractions: A Guide to Walt Disney World with Preschoolers (2014)

Over the holidays I was able to catch up on my Disney reading. Beyond the Attractions: A Guide to Walt Disney World with Preschoolers (2014) by Lisa M. Battista was tops on my list and I was eager to see what new tips I might learn.  I've traveled to Walt Disney World many times with my sons and my sisters children when they were toddlers and preschoolers but times have changed and I was anxious to learn the latest information for trips with my niece and her preschool children.
Planning a trip to Walt Disney World with preschoolers has never been easier.

Disney Frozen Hidden Gems - Did you spot them?

So, now that you've had a chance to see Frozen more than once, have a look at some of the hidden gems that were very cleverly placed in the movie.

Did you see any of them? Peter spotted Anna going for the sweets from Wreck-It Ralph during the first showing. It took me till our second viewing to see them.

WELCOME TO ARENDELLE – Elsa’s coronation draws guests from far-away lands—and movies. From “Tangled,” Eugene Fitzherbert aka Flynn Rider and Rapunzel even made the guest list.

SWEET REPEAT – Anna’s affinity for chocolate summons sweet treats all the way from the land of Sugar Rush in “Wreck-It Ralph.”

IT’S A MOUSE! – Disney’s famous icon makes the quickest of cameos in “Frozen.” A small Mickey Mouse plush sits on one of the lower shelves in Wandering Oaken's Trading Post and Sauna.

REPURPOSED PAINTING – Artist Lisa Keene’s painting—completed during the development phase of “Tangled” and based on “The Swing” by Jean-Honoré Fragonard—made such an impression on “Frozen” filmmakers, it became part of Anna’s signature song, “For the First Time in Forever,” when she leaps into the air and mimics the painting’s pose.

Did you spot any these Hidden gems in Frozen?

Dumbo Inspired Peanut Butter and Jelly Popcorn Balls Recipe

Dumbo Inspired Peanut Butter and Jelly Popcorn Balls Recipe

Today's Food Favorite post and the recipe is inspired by Dumbo the Flying Elephant. Recently I was delighted to receive a contest prize from Sean at Disney Day by Day of an adorable plush Dumbo. There he is pictured above. Isn't he sweet?

Dumbo reminded me of the popcorn at
Maurice's Amazing Popping Machine in New Fantasyland. You can get popcorn just about anywhere in Walt Disney World but not in Dumbo souvenir buckets from this magically themed popping machine cart.

I really wanted to taste the popcorn but we were in a bit of a rush and thought it might spoil our appetites so we deferred for another day which never happened. Silly decision and lesson learned. Just like Dumbo I needed a Timothy in my hat that day. Never put off Disney snacks for later. Eat now or forever hold your peace or peas as my son used to say.

Maurice's Amazing Popping Machine
Popcorn in Souvenir Bucket $5.25
Popcorn - $3.50

Dumbo also inspired me to find a healthy fun snack to enjoy right at home that was slightly different than just popping corn. I found this great recipe for DIY Dumbo's Peanut Butter and Jelly Popcorn Balls on a stick from Disney's Magic of Healthy Living

DreamWorks Pictures Need for Speed Trailers and Film Images #NeedForSpeed

DreamWorks Pictures Need for Speed Trailers and Film Images #NeedForSpeed
This movie is going to be one wild ride! Thrilling chase scenes, fast cars, exciting stunts - oh yea!  After seeing these trailers, it's going on my movie must-see list.

DreamWorks Pictures’ “Need for Speed” marks an exciting return to the great car culture films of the 1960s and ’70s, when the authenticity of the world brought a new level of intensity to the action on-screen. Tapping into what makes the American myth of the open road so appealing, the story chronicles a near-impossible cross-country journey for our heroes — one that begins as a mission for revenge, but proves to be one of redemption.
Based on the most successful racing video game franchise ever with over 140 million copies sold, "Need for Speed" captures the freedom and excitement of the game in a real-world setting, while bringing to life the passion for the road that has made our love of cars so timeless.

DreamWorks Pictures Need for Speed Trailers and Film Images #NeedForSpeed
About the movie:
The film centers around Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul), a blue-collar mechanic who races muscle cars on the side in an unsanctioned street-racing circuit. Struggling to keep his family-owned garage afloat, he reluctantly partners with the wealthy and arrogant ex-NASCAR driver Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper). But just as a major sale to car broker Julia Bonet (Imogen Poots) looks like it will save Tobey's shop, a disastrous race allows Dino to frame Tobey for a crime he didn’t commit, and sending Tobey to prison while Dino expands his business out west.

Two years later, Tobey is released and set on revenge — but he knows his only chance to take down his rival Dino is to defeat him in the high-stakes race known as De Leon — the Super Bowl of underground racing. However to get there in time, Tobey will have to run a high-octane, action-packed gauntlet that includes dodging pursuing cops coast-to-coast as well as contending with a dangerous bounty Dino has put out on his car. With the help of his loyal crew and the surprisingly resourceful Julia, Tobey defies odds at every turn and proves that even in the flashy world of exotic supercars, the underdog can still finish first.
