Welcome to The Disney Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop here at Focused on the Magic.com where each week we gather with other Bloggers to link up and share our Wordless Wednesday or Almost Wordless Wednesday Disney related picture posts.

This week's theme is the Disney inspired Letter "L". We've been moving through the alphabet. I've enjoyed going through all my pictures looking for just the right ones for this week.
Disney inspired Letter "L"

  • Buzz Lightyear at the Flower & Garden Festival.
  • Lotso Bear at the Flower & Garden Festival.
  • Sweet treats at Les Halles Bakery in the France Pavilion.
  • LeFou Brew at Gaston's Tavern.
  • Simba, Lion King Topiary.
  • 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea from the early 90's.
  • Little Mermaid sculpture.
  • Liberty Belle in the Magic Kingdom.
  • LeCellier  in Epcot.
  • Sancai-Glazed Lokapala (or "heavenly king") in the China Pavilion. They served as a tomb guardian. The unglazed head is molded with a foreign face. The color is achieved through sancal, a Chinese word meaning "three glazes." The name refers to the three different oxides used to create colors, such as iron for yellow and brown tones, copper for green tones, and cobalt for blue. Sancal decoration reached its peak during the Tang Dynasty (8th Century).

The Disney Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop ~ The Disney Days of Summer

Disney+Wordless+Wednesday+Blog+Hop Focused on the Magic
Welcome to The Disney Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop here at Focused on the Magic where each week bloggers gather to link up and share their Wordless Wednesday or Almost Wordless Wednesday Disney related picture posts.

This week's theme is The Disney Days of Summer
Friday is the First Day of Summer. Even if you've never been on a Disney trip in the summer you can participate by sharing pictures of sunny day activities.

Summer time at Disney is hot, hot, hot!
I decided to share a few of my favorite activities in a photo collage. The Yacht & Beach Club and Animal Kingdom Lodge pools are a delightful way to swim away the heat.
Paul driving a water mouse past the Contemporary on the way to the Wilderness Lodge. It was quite a challenge taking that picture as I was driving my own water mouse and trying to negotiate his wake while shooting. We both had a great day on the water zipping around. A pair of frosty Blue Raspberry Goofy Glacier at Animal Kingdom was a refreshing treat from the heat on a very hot day. Lastly, the new Dumbo ride is nice cool ride on a summers day.

Disney in the Rain

A rainy day in Disney World doesn't mean all your magical plans will be a total wash out. Being prepared with umbrellas, ponchos and a list of alternative activities might help you discover that rain in Disney can actually be fun and offer magical moments that you may not experience on a sunny day.

Unless there is a possibility of a storm, most rain showers are in the afternoon and last a brief amount of time. In May it rained every day for the last 5 days of our 10 day trip. While most people headed for the gates we donned our ponchos or popped open our umbrellas and went with the flow making memories that will last a lifetime.
Disney in the Rain, Magical Blogorail

Downtown Disney is a great place to be when it rains offering many indoor activities. My son Peter and I were caught in a downpour there one Friday night. We decided it was a good time to play video games at Disney Quest which we hadn't done in a very very long time. I'm not a big video gamer so it's not on top of my list. I got to play the Wreck it Ralph game for the first time. Then we tried our hand at bowling at Splitsville along with a quick bite to eat. If it hadn't been raining I know we would have walked right by those magical experiences.

Bill Farmer, Voice of Goofy, Gives “InsidEAR” Look at Goofy’s Sky School Attraction

Happy Father's Day!
This week we shared a tribute to the Disney Dads in our Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop posts. I posted a photo montage of my dear husband Paul, who in real life is a mild mannered corporate lawyer but when he's in the Disney Parks he breaks out his Goofy side. Check it out.

Another Disney Dad you may be more familiar with is Goofy, who's voice is that of Disney Legend Bill Farmer for the past 25 years. Garsh!
Disney InsidEARS caught up with the voice of Goofy, Disney Legend Bill Farmer, to get his take on the reimagined attraction, Goofy's Sky School in Disneyland.

6/12►This week's theme is Disney Dads

Sunday is Father's Day! We're celebrating on the hop by featuring Disney Dads: Fathers, Grandfathers, Care Givers, Uncles, famous father's like Walt Disney, Goofy, Baloo, Uncle Scrooge, Pongo, Tramp, Mr. Darling, The COP Father...you get the idea.

I chose to do a photo collage of my dear dear sweet husband who is an amazing Disney Dad to our 2 fine young men. I had a hard time picking out only a few pictures. I could easily fill a book of great Disney moments and memories we've shared as a family. Happy Father's Day Paul!

Some of these pictures need a little explanation.
L-R:
  • Putting at Epcot's Flower & Garden Festival, early 2000.
  • Touring Crescent Lake on The Breathless at Yacht & Beach Club Resorts.
  • Wilderness Lodge 60th birthday party  event.
  • "New Client", Paul told Pinocchio he'd represent him anytime.
  • Classic castle shot minus me.
  • "Under da sea" at Castaway Cay on a Disney cruise to Nassau.
  • "Paul in Space" at Kennedy Space Center. We rented a car and took a day trip up the Space Coast after our Disney cruise and before returning to the Boardwalk.
  • Disney through the years display at Town Square before it became Mickey's meet and greet.
  • Wilderness Lodge Rock and Silver Creek Springs Pool. Paul's favorite resort!

Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia ~ Donald Duck

Donald Duck celebrated his 79th birthday Sunday during the last day of Star Wars Weekends 2013. I hope it was a stellar celebration for him!

Donald is our families favorite character. He appeals to the young and old alike. Everyone seems to "get" his irascible personality and loves it when he flies off the handle at just about everything. Then there are his sweet moments when he oozes cuddly cuteness. We just can't seem to get enough of Donald.

So much so that on one of our many adventures to Walt Disney World in the early 90's we spent the better part of a weekend trying to find him for a meet and greet. That was long before Kenny the Pirate had his awesome character finding site and app. We finally did track Donald down in Duckburg. Yes, I know how obvious that should have been but in those days characters walked the parks and only a few had official meet and greets. If you didn't happen upon your favorite characters you would miss them.

You can find him these days in his finest festive fiesta attire greeting guests in the Mexico Pavilion. He has a nice little shady spot right next to the Mexico Pavilion and if it's raining don't fret, Donald moves inside to meet and greet guests.

Did you know these 5 fast fun facts?

  • Donald Duck's character was created in 1934 at Walt Disney Productions.
  • Donald is known for his distinctive voice which was created by Clarence Nash, who performed the role for 50 years.
  • Along with his friend Mickey, Donald is one of the most popular Disney characters and was included in TV Guide's list of the 50 greatest cartoon characters of all time in 2002.
  • Donald's first appearance was in The Wise Little Hen (1934), but it was his second appearance in Orphan's Benefit which introduced him as a temperamental mischievous character we know today.
  • He has appeared in more films than any other Disney character, listed as appearing in approximately 178 theatrical films compared to Mickey Mouse's 137, and is the fifth most published comic book character in the world after Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, and Wolverine.

Epcot Sounds Like Summer Concert Series

Disney Parks summer classic hits concert series, Sounds Like Summer, kicks off June 9th with Stayin' Alive ~ A Tribute to the Bee Gees

Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, Photo by Deb Silhan
Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, 2013
We always enjoy the Sounds Like Summer tribute band series. My kids grew up listening to classic rock and love it. They know the bands and the lyrics to most of the songs. So, I try make sure we see whomever is playing the weekends we're in Walt Disney World sometimes juggling ADRs around the schedules.

It's a nice break from the park crowds or rain (if you sit in the first few sections) and fun for the whole family. There really isn't a bad seat in the theater as the performers have a long runway/stage they perform on that you can see from almost every seat. I say almost because there are a few trees planted in the viewing area that can sometimes obstruct a clear view.

Finding a seat for this series is a bit easier than for the Flower Power Concert Series who have fans lining up an hour ahead of time to see their favorite performers. Fun too is to grab a table at The Liberty Tavern and dine while listening to some great music.

The shows are at 5:30, 6:45 and 8 p.m. (except July 4th, see below) in the open-air America Gardens Theater in the World Showcase. Sounds Like Summer concerts are included with Epcot admission.

The schedule (entertainment subject to change without notice):
June 9 to 15: Stayin’ Alive ~ A Tribute to the Bee Gees
June 16 to 22: Hotel California ~ A Salute to the Eagles
June 23 to 29: Mike DelGuidice & Big Shot ~ The Ultimate Billy Joel Tribute Show
June 30 to July 6: Slippery When Wet ~ The Ultimate Bon Jovi Tribute
July 7 to 13: SouthBound and Company ~ A Tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd
July 14 to 20: The Police Experience ~ A Tribute to The Police
July 21 to 27: 2U ~ A Tribute to U2

Show times are 5:30, 6:45 and 8:00 p.m. – except on July 4 when show times are 5:15, 6:30, 7:45 and 9 p.m.

Star Wars Weekend Foodie Favorite

Happy Foodie Friday! We're focused on cupcake galactic goodness today. Star Wars Weekends are an exciting and an event filled time with parades, character meet and greets, autograph signings, Darth Mall shopping and the galactic shows.
At some point during the out-of-this-world festivities you have to take a break and recharge, or at least I do. What better sweet snack dessert could there possibly be for Star Wars Weekends than the exclusive to Star Wars Weekends, Darth Vader cupcake? Darth Vader Cupcake, Star Wars Weekends, Disney Hollywood Studios, Walt Disney World ~ photo by Deb Silhan

This was the best cupcake I have ever tasted on property. It has edged out The Disney Moms Panel Fan Luncheon pink perfect cupcake as my favorite.

Disney Parks Moms Panel Fan Luncheon Cupcake, Disney Contemporary Resort, Walt Disney World ~ photo by Deb Silhan

The Darth Vader cupcake is one snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan or $4.99. Thinking that seems a bit pricey for a cupcake? Not at all, considering it's a full size large cupcake, filled with Chocolate-Peanut Butter, topped with sprinkles and Chocolate Frosting. DS, @PetethePirate and I decided to split this cupcake when we saw how large it was. I'm glad we did because it was more than enough for both of us, right down to the chocolate Darth Vader and white chocolate light saber. It was good to the last bite!

The Darth Vader cupcake was available during Star Wars Weekends in multiple locations throughout Disney Hollywood Studios. I got mine at ABC Commissary
so that I might enjoy my break from the action and some much needed air conditioning.
