Shooting RAW or JPEG

Illustration ©LightRoomLabs.com

Online photography message boards across the worldwide web always have at least one discussion about shooting in RAW vs JPEG formats. Sometimes the discussions get quite heated.

As with everything in photography, from camera models to memory card size, it's a matter of personal preference.

Before you can really decide what's best for your shooting style you should consider what a RAW or JPEG file is.

Imagineers Add Character to Belle's Village in New Fantasyland

New Fantasyland Imagineers are adding more interesting details to Belle's Village. Thanks to our InsidEARS Disneyland Community Manager Kelly for sharing this news article with us.
This week, our “All in the Details” post is taking on a video twist thanks to our friends at the Disney Parks Blog and Walt Disney Imagineering, who recently installed the centerpiece of Belle’s Village – an elaborate bronze statue of Gaston and his sidekick, Lefou.
As Imagineers Ted Robledo and Chris Kelly explain here, the statue’s design of Gaston and Lefou juggling leaky barrels and mugs was inspired by both Gaston’s boisterous temperament and the fountain Belle visits early in the film as she is reading. Ted and Chris also walk us through the detailed process it takes to create such an elaborate bronze statue – from building a clay maquette to choosing specific shades of bronze for the piece.

For reference, the fountain sits in the center of Belle’s Village in New Fantasyland. The building that appears behind the fountain is Gaston’s Tavern, while the structure directly across is Bonjour! Village Gifts. And as we shared last week, each of these experiences will grand open December 6 (with general previews beginning November 19).

Are you excited to see the new Fantasyland?

Weekly Look Back and Forward ~ 8/25

We Keep Moving Forward ~ Focused on the Magic.com
Hi there Disney friends! It's time for our weekly recap here at  Focused on the Magic. Then as we do, we’ll take a look ahead to future topics.

A Look Inside Maurice's Cottage in Fantasyland

Excitement is building and so are the Imagineers over in the new Fantasyland expansion. Maurice's Cottage is in it's final stages of development and we have a video of it. I'm still hopeful that a part of it will be open for our trip in October. A girl can dream...
Thanks to InsidEARS Disneyland Community Manager Kelly for sharing this news article with us.

We’ve hinted before on InsidEARS and the Disney Parks Blog that Enchanted Tales with Belle, in New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park, will be no ordinary character greeting. Today, we are sharing more details about this special experience. As you’ll see from the video below – provided by Walt Disney Imagineering – the goal of this attraction is not just to give you a place to meet a Disney character, but to completely transport you into the world of “Beauty and The Beast.”

The journey begins at Maurice’s Cottage, where they’ll walk through the whimsical garden and find inventions created by Belle’s tinkerer father, Maurice. Inside are books, pictures and other symbols that define the home of Belle and Maurice and their lives there, including leftover gadgets and artifacts from experiments gone awry. But guests also will see a mirror that magically becomes a portal into Beast’s Castle…
What are you most looking forward to in the new Fantasyland?

101 things To Do At Disney World ~ Wishes!

As many of you already know, one of my favorite things to do at Disney World is taking pictures of the fireworks displays. The show that keeps me coming back time after time to watch experience is Wishes in the Magic Kingdom. I really enjoy Illuminations: Reflections of Earth in Epcot, but I truly love Wishes.
The best way for me to capture and enjoy the show is if I use a cable release and a tripod. For many years I was a tripod hold-out, refusing to lug one around. It was so inconvenient to set it up, especially with the family in tow and forget about carrying it on rides. If I did bring it on the trip I would leave it in the room or in the locker and reclaim it at the end of the night. I was a tripod hater. About 5 years ago I decided to start bringing an ultra light, compact tripod and actually use it. What a difference, not only in my pictures but in the entire experience.

Sometimes I get so wrapped up in the show I forget to keep snapping and checking the view finder for composition. As you can see from the picture below, the fireworks are cut off and the castle is crooked. It's ok, if I mess up or miss something it means I just have go back and see it another night;)
Which is your favorite fireworks show in Disney World to photograph?

My post this week is dedicated to @Dis_Nolan, a wonderful member of The Disney Fan Community who has passed. Even though we never got to me in person, we shared many good times online. I remember logging on at 3am during the WDWRadio Marathon Weekend and chatting with Nolan, who was as happy and upbeat as ever. He went on to break the chat record too! His positive spirit, wit and humor will be sorely missed. My heart is very heavy but I know Nolan's heart is free to enjoy Wishes every night at peace.

"WISHES"

MUSIC COMPOSED BY GREGORY SMITH

Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight.
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish, I wish tonight.

Oh, a world of wishes,
A world where dreams come true.
So make a wish, see it through.
Dare to do what dreamers do.

CHORUS:

Wishes...
Dream a dream.
Wishes...
Set it free.
Wishes…
Trust your heart.
Just believe.

We’re all just children, Reaching for our dreams. They’re shining high above us, And even though it seems so far (so far) We put our faith and hope on a shooting star.

Oh...

CHORUS:

Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight.
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish, I wish tonight.
We’ll make a wish and do as dreamers do.

All our wishes,
Will come,
True…

Wishes, wishes.
