The light in the tower.....
I enjoy staying late into the night at The Magic Kingdom. On one of those nights I was walking behind the castle when I looked up and saw the light on in the tower.
Wouldn't it be magical to spend a night in the suite?

Special Teen Edition ~ Favorite Attraction

Today's Special Teen Edition is written by our resident (I mean that quite literally) teen blogger and dear son, Peter aka WDWPeter.
Welcome back Peter! So, what is your favorite attraction in Walt Disney World?
Walt Disney World with Teens and Tweens - Splash Mountain

Thanks for asking and thanks for having me guest blog today! My favorite and absolutely not to be missed attraction is without a doubt Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom's Frontierland!
It's an awesome wet and wild flume ride that is very popular. You'll want to get a FastPass for this ride! Check out this now out of print FastPass!
Walt Disney World with Teens and Tweens - Splash Mountain

I really like the back story for Splash Mountain. It's about Br'er Rabbit and his adventures searching for his laughing place. The story takes twists and turns in scenes set with animatronic figures as he leaves his safe little briar-patch home. All the while you travel through Splash Mountain with him in your flume boat. Br'er Rabbit gets entangled and trapped eventually by Br'er Bear and Br'er Fox and they threaten to throw him off the mountain. The theme is loosely based on the character Br'er Rabbit in a collection of short stories by Joel Chandler Harris and the 1946 Disney movie, Song of The South.
The stick in your head theme song is Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah from the movie Song of the South that won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

This was a surprise favorite ride for me. I have mild ASD and SPD and that makes me very shy about trying new things. I was afraid at first but after my family showed me pictures of it and described it and after a few trips not going on it but watching, I felt I would give it a try. Now I love it! I even talked my cousin who has ASD into riding it and he had a great time too.

Another great time to ride is at night during Wishes. It's really cool!

This is where you land after dropping down the mountain.

Fun Splash Mountain Facts:
  • Splash Mountain opened in WDW July 17, 1992 three years after the ride opened at Disneyland.
  • The ride is 11 minutes long
  • During the last drop you are going 40mph.
  • The last drop is 52.5 feet or the equivalent of a 5 story building.
  • It features 68 Audio Animatronics.
  • It has the largest animated prop in all of the Disney parks, The Zip-A-Dee-Lady Showboat.
  • You have to be 40" tall to ride.
I hope the next time you're in The Magic Kingdom you'll ride my favorite ride Splash Mountain.

Storm along the Bay

As I'm preparing for hurricane Irene to hit our area tomorrow I thought it would be apropos to post a storm picture for Flashback Friday.
This was taken in August of  2000 while standing on The Boardwalk looking over to The Yacht & Beach Club. We (my sister, her children and my children) had just finished a fabulous Spoodles lunch when the dark clouds rolled in. Fortunately, we didn't have to go far to get to our rooms as we were staying at The Boardwalk Villas. Of course, I before heading to the room I had to grab a quick snap of the dramatic clouds. We didn't let the storm dampen our spirits though and continued having a fabulous time making happy memories.

Be sure to hop over to Magical Days with the Mouse for some great Flashback Friday posts!

I hope everyone in hurricane Irene's path stays safe this weekend.
You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Before you go ~ I've been thinking for awhile of having a theme for each Disney Wordless Wednesday. A few of you already join me by posting your pics on similar topics and it's been a lot of fun seeing them. Here's how it might work. Each week l would pick a few topics and let you vote for your favorite theme for the week. You could still post any Disney pic wordless or almost. This would just be a fun plus for DWW. I've put up a poll at the top of the page and one on FB for a possible theme for next week. If the power stays on I'll post your theme choice here on Sunday night. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Adults love it! Cape May Character Breakfast at Disney's Beach Club Resort

Character dining experiences have become a family tradition while we're vacationing in Walt Disney World.

When my children were young I scheduled a character breakfast every day of our trip. It gave us a great start to the day and fun character interactions. All before hitting the parks. One of our favorite character meals is Beach Club Goofy and friends Character Breakfast at Cape May Cafe.

We first tried it on one of our trips in the early 90's while staying at The Yacht Club Resort. The characters were Admiral Goofy and Chip & Dale. Our son's favorite characters at that time were Chip & Dale so it quickly became a must do for us.

Saturday Shorts ~ Donald Duck's 61st Birthday Parade

Each week we focus on a short video or two or three relating to an event that occurred during the week. Well, this week I celebrated a birthday! The past three years I've celebrated my birthday in Walt Disney World partying to all hours in the Magic Kingdom. Not this year though. I was back home here in NJ. Fortunately, I was surrounded (sounds like a roundup) by my loving family and friends. In honor of my birthday here is a little video of Donald Duck's 61st Birthday Parade in Disneyland.
I love how Winnie The Pooh looks. He's aged well:)

Donald celebrates with his nephews in their own unique way in the next cartoon!

Friday

Flashback Friday ~ The 20th Anniversary Surprise Celebration Parade

It's time for Flashback Friday Time to focus on our favorite Disney memories from the past. This week we discovered (unearthed) an old photo from The 20th Anniversary Surprise Celebration Parade in The Magic Kingdom circa 1991.

The parades name would be changed to The Surprise Celebration Parade after the 20th anniversay ended. There were six very impressive cold-air filled 35 - 40 feet tall balloons and three floats in the parade.

We always called it The Party Gras Parade after the Disneyland parade of the same name. The floats and balloons had originated from the popular Party Gras Parade in Disneyland so it made sense to us.

The theme was a blend of Mardi Gras and Carnival del Rio with characters, acrobats, jesters and stilt walkers. The music kept the parade tempo exciting and festive. You couldn't help but smile and dance or at least sway to the beat. To see giant balloons floating down Main Street USA was a thrill.

Each day of the parade, one lucky family was chosen to ride in the parade on the Roger Rabbit float.

It was a huge hit from September 22, 1991- June 1994 in Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom Resort.
I hope yours is a magical weekend!!
