Welcome to Flashback Friday! Whenever we can we enter the Wayback Machine to another magical time and place in our Disney past. The Wayback Machine is an Internet archive of history.
It's amazing what I find by simply entering the url of the website I'd like to explore. The Wayback Machine stores everything! Here's an example of Paul's (DH) website The Hall of Forgotten Presidents from the '90s.
This week we discovered (unearthed) some new old photos to share with you from The Diamond Horseshoe Jamboree. So, sit back relax and let's begin our journey back in time to 1991 in The Magic Kingdom at The Diamond Horseshoe Jamboree. Here DS is trying to read the sign in front but can't quite make out what it says. Dad is helping with some of the words....

Saturday Shorts~ GNOMEO & JULIET

This week we are focusing on GNOMEO & JULIET (2011) the little garden gnome romantic comedy film based...sort of based on William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. The film is directed by Kelly Asbury with main character voice actors James McAvoy and Emily Blunt.

There wasn't much Disney board buzz about it when this came out in theaters or at least I didn't see a lot of it.

This little movie got me the minute I heard that the music was from Sir Elton John. I knew then I'd put it on my must-see list.  When a movie comes out on DVD that I know "the boys" will pass on for reasons a mother will never understand,  I put a request in with our local library. We have Netflix, Redbox and had a Blockbuster that we use but I feel we should support our local libraries whenever we can. Besides, I love going to the library and picking up a good read at the same time:) So I dashed down to the library when my request for Gnomeo & Juliet came in.
As I often do I watched it from the discomfort of my treadmill. I get some exercise and the time goes by quickly..if the movie is good. This was the perfect treadmilling movie running 84 minutes and the "G" entertainment value was perfect too. I loved that an adult could appreciate some of the double entendres while still keeping with the storyline for children. I'm not going to review it fully here. I'll just say you can't go wrong with this DVD. It's not one of the best "G" movies I can think of but you will be entertained. There were plenty of laughs (run, run, run) and upbeat music (skip, skip). There were lovely little gnome moments too (walking, walking). All in all the story was a wonderful surprise. I think my favorite character was Lady Blueberry voiced by Maggie Smith and my favorite song was “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” (a duet with Kiki Dee). There were plenty of terrific songs throughout.

As promised a little trailer short:

If you just love the music after seeing the movie. Check out the soundtrack:
Press Release: BUENA VISTA RECORDS GNOMEO & JULIET ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK Features New and Classic Songs by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, plus James Newton Howard Score. The 14-track album features nine new and classic songs by one of pop music’s all-time greatest songwriting teams, Elton John and Bernie Taupin, and performed by Sir Elton himself. Among the key tracks are two new songs, “Hello Hello” and “Love Builds a Garden,” as well as a sensational remake of Elton’s #1 hit from 1973, “Crocodile Rock,” sung as a duet with Nellie Furtado. The soundtrack also includes selections from Oscar®-nominated composer James Newton Howard and Chris Bacon. Classic Elton John recordings featured in the soundtrack include “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting,” “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” (a duet with Kiki Dee), “Bennie and the Jets,” “Tiny Dancer” and “Your Song.”

Foto Flashback Friday ~ The Wonder

It's Foto Flashback Friday and once again we've entered the Wayback Machine and discovered (unearthed) some new old photos to share with you.
So sit back relax and let's begin our journey back in time to 2001 and the a Wonder-filled cruise to Freeport in The Bahamas on The Disney Wonder.
It was August and hot, similar to the weather we're having now. DH and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. This pic was unearthed this week because we'll be celebrating our 35th anniversary in just a few days. It's so hard to believe it's been that long!

The morning we were docked in Freeport we were scheduled to go on a diving excursion out on the island. When we showed up at our schedule dive spot there was no one there. Disappointed the boys decided they rather hang out with friends back on the ship but DH and I decided to take in the sites in the local area. Wandering around the docks we spotted a huge beautiful catamaran sailboat that offered snorkeling cruises. Well, that seemed like a fun idea so we signed up. What a lovely day we had! The snorkeling was amazing as was the sailing, drinks and music. The captain had a very good spot for snorkeling pretty far off the island.

Que the music for Gilligan's Island. The the sky turned dark as you can see from the pic and the seas became rough. Yup, we knew if we didn't get back to port we were in trouble. Earlier we had been talking to the captain about sailing and how once I'd gotten stuck in a storm in Plum Gut off Long Island. So while the captain and his mate were preparing for the storm they let me take the helm...briefly..but what a thrill it was! They got us back to the dock in just the nick of time. We hopped in a cab and back to our ship when the sky opened up with a fury.

Thanks for joining me today for Foto Flashback Friday and my nostalgic trip back in time.
